A massive well done to all 52 of our Beginners boxers that have just completed their 8 week beginners boxing course.
It was a huge effort with the amount of registrations we received to start boxing at the club...huge credit to all the boxers and their parents having to deal with different outdoor venues, different start times, pods, groups and of course some rainy nights...but we all got there in the end. We held a (one family at a time) presentation this evening where we presented all the boxers with a well deserved MBC Medal, Cert & Tshirt. Massive thank you as always to the committee of St. Joseph’s FC Sallynoggin for use of their great facilities. Also to the DLRCC, DLR Sports Partnership, our local Councillors and all our sponsors & supporters. We are Sincerely grateful for your community spirit. Great work by all our helpers, coaches & committee in particular Ken Doyle, Eve Carr & Karl Kelly. We look forward to seeing all these boxers representing MBC for many years to come. The week long course is happening at the National Stadium Dublin. If James completes & passes exams he will then be legible to do Corners at European and World International Tournaments. Best of luck James. #MBC4Life There was more electric scenes at the National Stadium on Saturday afternoon as Monkstown BC's Kenneth Doyle added the All Ireland Under 22 Championship title to his All Ireland Seniors win. Kenneth (still only aged 18) booked his seat on the Irish Team heading to the upcoming European U22 Championships in Romania in March 2018. The IABA were using this championship as a selection process for the European U22 Championship. He will now enrol in the High Performance Training Camp at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown. He is no stranger to tough training and making sacrifices - there was no selection boxes over the Christmas for Doyle as he was in the middle of his training preparations for these championships, he also continues his studies at Sallynoggin College of Further Education where he is studying Sports & Leisure Management. The Irish U22 championships have been ongoing for the past 3 weekends at the National Stadium. Doyle had to overcome 3 familiar opponents to lift the Light Welter 64kg Title. Saturday 13th January: 64kg Kenneth Doyle (Monkstown Dublin) - Won 5/0 - Harrison Jameson (Virginia BC, Cavan) Saturday 20th January: 64kg Kenneth Doyle (Monkstown Dublin) - Won 5/0 - Michael Kinsella (St Anthony’s/Pats BC, Wexford) Saturday 27th January: 64kg Kenneth Doyle (Monkstown Dublin) - Won 3/2 - Matthew McCole (Dungloe BC, Donegal) Photo's: 1. Board Chairman Arthur O'Brien Unbelievable scenes at the National Stadium on Friday night (01/12/2017) – Monkstown BC’s Kenneth Doyle won the Irish Senior Light Welterweight 64kg Title. He becomes Monkstown’s 1st Senior Champion. Kenneth is a real success story of “Never give Up on your dreams”. Boxing in Monkstown BC since he was 9 years old, titles never came easy for him. He entered the Dublin Leagues at 11 years old and lost in the Final, he was then beaten in the Dublin Championship also in the final of same year. He never gave up and eventually after 5 hard years he done the double when he was 16 – he last chance of both & he won Dublin Leagues & Championships – he was beaten in the Semi Finals of the All-Irelands same year. Since then he has been runner up twice in the All Irelands - but was not to be denied on Friday. He has been in National Stadium watching all his team mates winning National Titles year after year – he has dreamt his day would come. He entered the All Ireland Senior Championships on the 17th November after winning the recent Leinster Senior Championship throughout October. In the All Irelands he had 16 other senior boxers (all aged from 18 to 40) from all corners of the country to overcome, and a daunting task he did just that. Club Coach James Doyle “this is unbelievable for Kenneth - at the tender age of 18 winning a Senior Title is an exceptional achievement. He deserves everything he gets from Boxing as he puts so much in, he is first into the club in the evening and last to leave. He has worked so hard for this – we are over the moon for him”. Kenneth is no stranger to tough training – he jogs Dun Laoghaire Pier every morning before attending to his studies in the Sallynoggin College of Further Education, were he studies Sports & Leisure Management. Previous winners of the 64kg Irish Senior Title include Michael Carruth and Billy Walsh. His route to the title: 17/11/2017 Last 16: Kenneth Doyle (Monkstown Dublin) beat Aaron Daly (Castlebar, Mayo) 5-0 24/11/2017: Quarter Finals: Kenneth Doyle (Monkstown Dublin) beat Jamie Long (Army/Muskerry, Cork) 3-2 25/11/2017: Semi Finals: Kenneth Doyle (Monkstown Dublin) beat Michael Kinsella (St Anthonys /Pats Wexford) 5-0 01/12/2017: Finals: Kenneth Doyle (Monkstown Dublin) beat Matthew McCole (Dungloe, Donegal) 4-1 Pictures:
