Unbelievable scenes at the National Stadium on Friday night (01/12/2017) – Monkstown BC’s Kenneth Doyle won the Irish Senior Light Welterweight 64kg Title. He becomes Monkstown’s 1st Senior Champion. Kenneth is a real success story of “Never give Up on your dreams”. Boxing in Monkstown BC since he was 9 years old, titles never came easy for him. He entered the Dublin Leagues at 11 years old and lost in the Final, he was then beaten in the Dublin Championship also in the final of same year. He never gave up and eventually after 5 hard years he done the double when he was 16 – he last chance of both & he won Dublin Leagues & Championships – he was beaten in the Semi Finals of the All-Irelands same year. Since then he has been runner up twice in the All Irelands - but was not to be denied on Friday. He has been in National Stadium watching all his team mates winning National Titles year after year – he has dreamt his day would come. He entered the All Ireland Senior Championships on the 17th November after winning the recent Leinster Senior Championship throughout October. In the All Irelands he had 16 other senior boxers (all aged from 18 to 40) from all corners of the country to overcome, and a daunting task he did just that. Club Coach James Doyle “this is unbelievable for Kenneth - at the tender age of 18 winning a Senior Title is an exceptional achievement. He deserves everything he gets from Boxing as he puts so much in, he is first into the club in the evening and last to leave. He has worked so hard for this – we are over the moon for him”. Kenneth is no stranger to tough training – he jogs Dun Laoghaire Pier every morning before attending to his studies in the Sallynoggin College of Further Education, were he studies Sports & Leisure Management. Previous winners of the 64kg Irish Senior Title include Michael Carruth and Billy Walsh.
