Monkstown Boxing Club recognised for it's record year by scooping Irish-Boxing.com "Best Club Award 2016". The club finished 2016 with a whopping TEN Irish Champions (beating 2015 feat of Nine). http://www.irish-boxing.com/winner-the-2016-irish-boxing-com-awards/ Club Chairman Tommy Rapple had this to say about the club's record year "this is an unbelievable achievement, 2016 was very good to us. Our boxers have trained extremely hard & got themselves in great physical condition for the whole year and I am delighted for them, our coaches deserve huge credit - all volunteers and give huge dedication and commitment to coaching our boys/girls to the highest standard, a well done all round" The club will find out soon is it has made the same achievement with in the Irish Athletic Boxing Association, which holds it awards in February/March. The club will embark on a 3 day training camp for 40 of it's boxers to London on Friday 20th January, before the upcoming Dublin and Ireland championships in Feb/Mar. The club will visit 3 of London's best boxing clubs for Training & Sparring including English top clubs West Ham BC, The Ring Bracknell BC and Repton BC. MONKSTOWN BOXING CLUB ACHIEVEMENTS 2016 Inside the Ring • 10 x All Ireland Champions (Including 4 Girls) • 15 Leinster ‘Michael Andrews’ Champions (Including 4 Girls) • 12 Dublin Leagues Champions (boys aged 11 to 16) • 10 Louth Open Champions • 5 Dublin Youth Champions • 5 Dublin Schoolboys Champions • 4 Dublin Schoolgirls/youth Female Champions • Took on New York State Selection in Gleason’s Gym NY and won overall 8-7. Outside the Ring • Club trip to Liverpool – we visited 2 different boxing clubs in 3 days (Our party consisted of 12 Coaches/Officials and 41 Boxers aged from 9 to 21) • Club trip to New York - we visited one of the most famous Boxing Gym's in the world Gleason's Gym were we competed against NY State. We also visited boxing club in Queens NY for Training/Sparring/Relationship Building. • Monkstown International Box Cup 2016 – has its highest number of entries with 900 from 12 Different Countries. We reckon approx. 2000 people came to Dun Laoghaire from outside Ireland to compete or support this event. Dun Laoghaire town and surrounding areas received huge benefits from this. Every Hotel in DLR and surrounding area was booked up for the weekend • 6 Schoolboy/Youth Boxers added to IABA High Performance Program • Tommy Rapple added to IABA R&J (Referee & Judges) register • Club Development Coach James Doyle successfully produces Boxing Program for Dun Laoghaire Tivoli Centre Probation Services • JP Kinsella received IABA Lifetime Achievement Award • 2 Successful ‘8 Weeks Beginners Boxing Courses’ completed for Schoolboys & Schoolgirls • James Doyle added to Dublin Coaching Team • 5 New Coaches added and fully completed IABA Coaching Course Level 1 • Today FM award Club Development Coach James Doyle with a ‘Mentor’s Award’ • JP Kinsella completes AIBA Level 1 Coaching Course – which now means he can coach at the world’s biggest tournaments including Olympic Qualifiers & European Championships • Equipment Grant of €2000 received from the Dublin Bus Awards • JP Kinsella coaches at European Schoolboy Championships in Croatia – Ireland return with best ever medal haul. 2 Golds & 4 Bronze Medals • Club trips - we travelled to St. John BC Derry, Olympic BC Galway and Bantry BC Cork for relationship building and stayed overnight at each city
