Monkstown BC’s 18 year old Heavyweight Jack Marley returns home from the European U22 Championships in Italy with a hard fought Bronze Medal.
Jack had two very experienced boxers from Germany (last 16), and Moldova (quarters) to overcome before reaching the medal stages. He then boxed Georgia in the semi finals and lost on points after a titanic battle from Jack. At only 18 years of age, jack showed tremendous talent throughout his training camp and this tournament, it really bodes well for him in the future. His Monkstown BC teammate Sean Mari (flyweight) was also competing at the tournament, he turned the rankings on their head in his first bout by beating a highly fancied Englishman in the last 16 stage. He came up against a really experienced Romanian opponent in the quarter finals and very narrowly lost on points, the Romanian has qualified for Tokyo Olympics. The Irish team were absolutely delighted with Sean’s performances. Coaching on the Irish team was Monkstown BC coach James Doyle, he had a very busy & hugely successful tournament. The Irish team take home 3 medals 1 Gold, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze - a huge tally and one of ireland most successful trips ever at an European U22 championship for an Irish team. All three will take a couple of days off before returning to the hardworking Monkstown club in Fitzgerald Park. #Community #MBC4Life
